An emergency call-out is an unplanned attendance on a system that has stopped doing its job: no cooling, tripping out, leaking water, icing up, alarming, or making a noise that says something mechanical is about to let go. The point of the visit is not to guess — it is to get the fault identified while we are there, get the system running again where that is possible on the day, and give you a clear written position on anything that needs parts ordering.
We attend breakdowns across Welshpool, Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Newtown and the surrounding mid-Wales and Shropshire towns, typically within 1–2 hours of the call depending on where the site is and what is already on the day's schedule. Customers on a maintenance agreement get priority attendance.
Every engineer attending is F-Gas certified and REFCOM registered, so refrigerant work is done and recorded legally. We carry common consumables and diagnostic kit on the van, which is why most call-outs end with the system either running again or with a definite answer rather than a return visit to work out what is wrong.

The cost of leaving it
Most systems that fail suddenly were failing slowly first. A slow refrigerant leak, a fouled condenser or a silted drain puts the compressor under load it was never meant to carry, and the compressor is the single most expensive component in the machine. Running a system that is struggling, or repeatedly resetting one that keeps tripping, is usually what turns a repairable fault into a replacement.
The second cost is the trading cost. An overheated shop floor, a restaurant that cannot seat its covers, an office nobody can concentrate in — that is revenue lost in hours, not weeks. It is almost always larger than the call-out.
The third is being told it is beyond saving. We have taken over systems written off by other contractors and put them back into service. Before you accept a five-figure replacement quote, get the fault properly diagnosed by an F-Gas certified engineer.
Running on low refrigerant or against a blocked coil kills compressors. Attending early is what keeps the repair small.

In detail
Most emergency call-outs fall into a small number of recognisable failures. Knowing which one you are looking at usually tells you how urgent it is.
Almost always refrigerant charge, airflow or a failed component in the circuit. The fan runs, the room stays warm, and the temptation is to leave it running — which is exactly what damages the compressor.
Diagnosis means measuring pressures and temperatures rather than adding gas and hoping. If the charge is low, something let it out, and that leak needs tracing.
Repeated trips point at electrical faults, high or low pressure protection, or a control problem. The protection is doing its job — resetting past it repeatedly is how a cheap fault becomes an expensive one.
We read the fault codes, check the supply and the protection devices, and identify what the system is defending itself against.
Usually a blocked condensate drain or a failed lift pump. In a ceiling void it drips into plasterboard, stock or electrics, so it is urgent even though the cooling still works.
Clearing and testing the drain, and checking the pump and fall on the pipework, is normally a same-visit fix.
Icing means restricted airflow or low refrigerant. Filters, coils and fan condition are the first checks; if those are clean, the circuit is the problem.
Running an icing system on keeps liquid refrigerant heading back to the compressor, which is the failure mode you most want to avoid.
Bearing wear, fan damage, contactor and capacitor failures and seized components all announce themselves before they finish. Attended early, most are straightforward parts replacements.
Left running, the same faults take out more expensive components alongside them.
These two are treated differently because the loss is not comfort, it is stock and equipment. Cellar plant failures put beer at risk within hours, and comms rooms throttle and shut down.
Where the plant cannot be fixed on the day, we will discuss temporary measures to protect what is in the room while the repair is completed.
